We all avoid.
For some, it looks like procrastination. For others, it looks like escapism or substance use. We avoid uncomfortable emotions, situations, and the unknown.
Avoidance is an effective and accessible strategy to alleviate short-term discomfort. But it can also have negative consequences if used too much or for too long.
